History

Grand Valley Speedway was in the original Gran Turismo in 1997 and every numbered game until Sport. GT7 brought it back in Update 1.29 in February 2023 with a new name and a new home. Highway 1 reimagines the old lake-and-mountain speedway along a Big Sur-style California coast: narrower, with barriers instead of grass, tunnels, and a long bridge over the water. The result splits the room. The ocean and cliffs make a gorgeous drive; the missing old stadium leaves longtime players homesick. Both camps still have to brake for the first hairpin.

Fun fact

Grand Valley kept its name but moved from an inland speedway to a fictional California coastal road, complete with elephant seals on the beach.

The corners that matter

Turn 2, the hairpin after the start run, is the lap-one stack; the circuit is narrower now and three-wide does not fit. The long downhill that follows (3 through 10) is fast, narrow, and lined with walls; a small slide becomes a big repair, and brake heat builds. The tunnel exits (11 and 12) change the light and unsettle the car. The cliffside section is single-file unless someone leaves a door. The high-speed bridge (16 through 18) is where you think you can pass and instead meet a barrier. The final corner is the overtake if you kept the car tidy through the bridge. On lap one: hairpin and bridge. After that, patience.

Main-event strategy

No rain. The walls make every mistake expensive, so tire management is also damage management. One stop: mediums to start, softs only if you can keep them off the barriers. The pit entry is tight right after the final corner; a slow in-lap wrecks the downhill. Fuel at 6x matters on the long coastal runs. The Lamborghini Huracán GT3 and the BMW M6 GT3 like the coastal straights; the Ferrari 458 GT3 likes the hairpin. Pick the car that matches how you miss corners.

Garage notes

Medium downforce. Gear for about 180 mph. Brake balance forward with the long downhill in mind, and a touch of extra brake pressure margin so you’re not standing on it. Keep ride height moderate for the bridge crests.

Opener notes

The Viper is a lot of engine in a narrow road. On mediums it spins at the hairpin if you ask for throttle before the wheel is open. Reverse grid plus Viper torque is how friendships get tested. Brake early, short-shift the downhill, and don’t attempt a bridge pass unless you can see daylight. The wall does not flex.

“Grand Valley used to have runoff. Now it has an ocean and a concrete opinion.”
